Residential/Business Private Power Pole Installation
Some of the most common residential power installations involve a 100AMP supply – where a Level 2 electrician will connect a 25mm XLPE Aluminium single-phase or three-phrase cable to the location of the connection at the pole. Steel, concrete or even timber pole can be used. To allow for and comply with the type of pole used, a pole cap will be supplied and installed, sometimes with a hook or other fixings.
Mains power upgrades
A simple explanation of this type of work is, consumer mains power exists to connect the source of power on the street and the main switchboard on the consumer’s property. It can however extend to electrical metering and other associated jobs. Whilst most modern properties have underground consumers mains from a pillar, older style homes will have overheard consumer mains.
Legally, any work that is to be done on consumer mains needs to be completed by a Level 2 electrician. These electricians are the ones who have the qualifications and further training in order to know how to work safely with the higher voltage power, which a ‘normal’ or ‘regular’ electrician is legally not qualified to do. Any work performed by regular electricians on consumers mains is illegal and penalties will apply from the NSW Government and other authorities.
Defect notices
You may receive a defect notice if you have issues such as faulty wiring, excessive growth in vegetation (that causes interference with electrical wiring) or any modifications that have been performed to the original connection. Historical (out of date) switchboards, Sun-damaged mains, rusty connections and low-running overhead wiring can also be a reason of defects.
